Hair Donation Issue

Dear Summer,
I was thinking, a while ago, that maybe I could donate my hair to charity. Do you think this is a good idea? It reaches my waist now, and I was thinking about getting something shorter for back to school anyway so I thought that would be a good way to go. I was wondering a few things though.
1. Whiuch charity is best?
2. Are there any guidelines or limitations?
3. How does it work?
4. Where would it happen?
5. How much of my hair would be donated?

Good for you, donating hair to a worthy cause. I did this earlier this year, and it is really worthwhile and gives you a good feeling to know you're helping someone. As for which is better, it is ultimately up to you. I'd suggest Locks of Love, Wigs for Kids, or Pantene Beautiful Lengths - I donated to Locks of Love, though I've received glowing reviews from both of the others. Secondly, yes, there are a few guidelines and limitations for each.See which your hair is mot suitable for (note that, as the name suggests, Wigs for Kids donates only to children). As for how it works, it is up to you. Basically, the hair donated is sent off to the location where it is manufactured into a wig - find the addresses on the websites above, and there are a number of ways you can make the cut. You can do it yourself or at a salon, or there are events you can do it at. Firstly, if you want to cut it yourself, do it like this:
1. Clean, condition, and dry hair, not using any product or hairspray.
2. Gather hair at nape of neck and tie with an elastic band.
3. Ensure this is just below where you want to cut it.
4. Measure and make sure it is at least 10 inches (longer is great!)
5. Cut just above the rubber bamd.
6. Enclose hair in a plastic bag and mail to organisation.
There are a load of ways to do this. One could be a haircutting party getting your friends involved, and another could be making a haircut drive occur at your school, encouraging people to all donate a ponytail.Like I said before, you can do it at home or a salon, or there are public events which may not be ideal as it may be in front of a crowd, and 10-12 inches of hair is generally required. If you were interested in a haircutting party, there is a booklet on the Pantene Beautiful lengths site detailing how to throw one.
